First page of Moving Beyond a Call
Collectively Engaging in Socially Just Leadership Education

Calling others into action and motivating others toward creating change is indeed important to moving forward. However, what is even more important is how we actually engage in socially just leadership education. Not just to talk about, but how to engage in the work with all social identities, at all levels, and contexts. The conversation is shifting from the mere need of action to the actual engagement of the work. To provide leadership learning opportunities with culturally relevance at the heart of creation, critical pedagogy intentionally used, and topics that consider the leader development of identity, capacity, and efficacy of all students. Just as the cover of this book illustrates, it takes a new perspective, looking at things differently, to shift a mindset. The symbolic nature of the reflection is literal in the sense that is takes continuous meaning making and learning to shift perspective. The subject of a tree of this perspective shift symbolizes growth and the planting of a seed to growing into something bigger. All of these symbolic features of the book cover comes together in the need for action.
