Chapter 14: Heaven As It Is On Earth

The overarching attempt by management scholars to instill or reveal meaning and purpose in daily work is to be lauded. Most researchers rightly assume a level of secularity in the Western workplace; work environments that are devoid of the transcendent (Alexis, 2021). Some suggest that the present antiseptic workplace environment is due in large part to the modernistic emphasis on workplace efficacy, machine based production and scientific management, all of which can leave a worker feeling obligated to remove personal motivations, especially those that interfere with workplace production (Hodson, 1996). Yet early assumptions that man would be crushed under the weight of secularity in the workplace and culture are misplaced, in actuality the secular environment has given rise to need for transcendent.
