In this chapter, we discuss the role of the work-family interface in the experience of stress and strain. We note that work and family roles can have both negative (e.g., work-family conflict) and positive (e.g., work-family facilitation) implications for stress. We briefly review literature on the positive and negative outcomes of the work-family interface and suggest interesting new contexts within which to study the work-family interface. We conclude the chapter by discussing techniques to manage the work-family interface.
