This chapter describes how to implement science language routines in online settings, especially for English Learners who face the challenge of learning science content in a language they are still learning. A system of science language routines supports both science and language learning. Based on a sociocultural perspective, these routines support the teaching and learning of photosynthesis by integrating multiple modalities and language domains. They support conceptual understanding and facilitate meaningful discourse contextualized in science. Lastly, this chapter provides tips, resources, and discussion questions to support online science and language learning of English learners.
