Abstract
Faculty learning communities (FLCs) have become an integral part of faculty development programs implemented by higher education institutions. FLCs can facilitate faculty development and cultivate competencies that advance the scholarship of engagement. Based on a case study, this chapter describes the structure, activities, and outcomes of one university’s FLC in relation to community-engaged scholarship. Among the benefits of participation in the FLC, as summarized in the chapter, are cross-disciplinary collaboration, understanding of engaged scholarship, opportunities to publish and present research, and responsiveness to neighborhood needs. The chapter also emphasizes the importance of reflective practice in nurturing professional growth among faculty members.
