2021 PRESIDENTIAL ADDRESS ORGANIZATION OF EDUCATIONAL HISTORIANS OCTOBER 2021 VIRTUAL ONLINE

Hi. First off, I’d like to say that I don’t usually do this sort of thing—not just give presidential addresses, but I don’t usually present a lecture like this in general. Most of my teaching background has been in smaller classrooms and smaller spaces, which has worked well for me because I typically prefer more interaction, more discussion, more of a dialogue instead of lecture, or—in the case of conferences—roundtable discussions as opposed to paper presentations. So, to add more of an interactive feel, I’ll have a question that I’ll ask you along the way, and I also want to encourage you to add thoughts or questions in the chat window—don’t worry, we won’t have any breakout rooms. And even though I don’t think that this is typical for what we would normally do during a presidential address, these aren’t typical times. So, as we wait for our conference to be in person again, let’s take advantage of the technology and modality to be creative and try something new.
