Many of us believe that the system of schooling we have is not quite the one we want. But what is lacking in it? And how should it be changed? These are the two major questions addressed in this chapter. I first consider the system we have, and then, the system toward which I believe we should aspire.
In order to contemplate the kind of educational system we would like to have, it helps to contemplate the system we currently have. Only in this way can we become sensitive to needed changes. So what kind of system have we created?
