The aim of this volume is to consider the contours of personhood from the vantage point of leadership. While scholarship that pays heed to humanistic questions has long resided in the provinces of philosophy or theology, Joanne B. Ciulla (1995) argued in her seminal article that leadership ought to draw upon insights of the humanities, particularly insights which help clarify ethical quandaries. Leadership ethics has since become a rich and diverse field, drawing upon a range of thinkers, ancient to modern. Save for several gestures to his work in within broader studies of moral leadership, scholars have yet to fully invite 20th Century German thinker, Hans Jonas to the table (Chatterji & Zsolnai, 2016; Harter, 2015).
