Chapter 1: Asiancrit as a Theoretical Lens to Trouble and Transform white Supremacy

As a branch of critical race theory, AsianCrit provides a theoretical and methodological tool to expose and disrupt anti-Asian racism and white supremacy in social studies education. Despite its possible contribution, AsianCrit has been underutilized in social studies research and practice. This chapter explicates what AsianCrit is and how it can contribute to social studies education. Specifically, it draws on AsianCrit informed research and explains how social studies researchers, educators, and students can use AsianCrit as a lens to uncover and trouble white supremacy entrenched in social studies curriculum and instruction of K–12 education and teacher education.
