Chapter 15: Transcending and Transforming: Teaching and Learning in the Time of COVID 19

As the dot on the map grew so did our anxiety, fear, and uncertainty (see Figure 15.1). In the midst of the barrage of surreal and disorienting news from the multitude of media sources on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, we began our ninth week of the course, Foundations of Inquiry, synchronously on Zoom. “We” consisted of me, an associate professor of interdisciplinary studies, and my undergraduate students. Our university, with a campus in the heart of New York City, shared the news we would be suspending classes on March 11 through March 13. Our Spring Recess would continue as scheduled from March 14 through March 22. When we returned on Monday, March 23, 2020, most suspended in-person classes resumed in remote learning environments.
