The purpose of this study is to explore the experiences of Black males in the honors colleges at Predominantly White Institutions (PWI) in the South. Specifically, this research aims to highlight the successes, challenges and common experiences of Black males in the honors college. This study seeks to share narratives of success to counteract the majoritarian narrative of Black male underachievement in education. Critical Race Theory (CRT) provides a framework to understand the emergent themes and findings. The following three themes emerged: 1) Civic engagement and activism, 2) underrepresentation and invisibility, and 3) being “othered.”
