This chapter examines three graduate-level global study courses, developed and taught by the author in three different countries. Each course is explored for the level and depth of the cultural immersion experienced and the ways that global study can help students examine deeply held beliefs and stereotypes. The author discusses the importance of community engagement, homestays, and incorporating mindfulness practices into global study courses to enhance deeper learning and as a way to develop empathy and compassion for self and others. In the final section, the author offers practical suggestions for faculty and staff seeking to create impactful global-learning experiences into graduate programs.
