This chapter explores one mother’s conscientious decision to homeschool in response to a global pandemic (COVID-19) and a national epidemic (poor schooling of Black children). The author wears multiple hats and uses a critical autoethnographic approach to illustrating the peaks and valleys in her first-year homeschooling. Detailing the process of creating a mission and vision, and the realities of trying to live them out, this chapter provides an honest picture of homeschooling while being a single, full-time employed mother.
