This qualitative study investigates how Turkish graduate students who attend a southern university in the United States understand the concept of patriotism, the globally interconnected world, and what they think about the idea of global citizenship. Data was collected from semi-structured interviews from six participants who pursue a graduate degree in the field of education at a Southern University in the United States. The authors analyzed the data using a phenomenological approach. Four broad themes were found through the analysis: The concept of globalization, global citizenship, characteristics of an ideal global citizen, and globalization versus patriotism. This study demonstrates the future teacher educators’ perceptions about global citizenship.
