Static maintained load and constant rate of penetration pile tests are compared with dynamic pile test analyses, using the CAPWAPC method, for five different sites in the UK. The piles studied included both square and triangular section piles, some of which were slip coated and some of which were plain. Although there are differences between dynamic analysis performance predictions and static load test results, these are such that dynamic analysis can readily be used to predict driven pile performance. This leads to the possibility of testing larger percentages of piles on site. The authors argue that factors of safety should be related to the testing regime adopted and dynamic analysis allows smaller factors of safety to be used with confidence.
