How much of the 21.5m3 has remained in the nearshore system?
There has been extensive and detailed monitoring since construction in 2011, including profiles, Lidar and jet-ski borne shallow water surveying. This has shown that after 4 years (2015) approximately 3.5m m3 had moved from the initial footprint. Over that same period, ~2.5m m3 had accreted to both sides, suggesting that approximately 1m m3 had been ‘lost’ – probably mostly offshore, some also due to wind-blown erosion. The monitoring shows that the erosion rate is reducing over time – because the shape sticks out less, but also because of natural armouring.
