Techniques in the Management of Existing Maritime Structures to Maximize Asset Use and Extend Design Life

This paper presents a discussion of the need to extend the design and operational life of existing maritime structures. It describes modern techniques that can be used to achieve this objective. It is becoming increasingly necessary to use innovative methods to extend the useful life of existing maritime structures. There are many reasons why this is so, including the need to strictly control cost expenditure on port and maritime assets, changes in the use of the facility as business requirements evolve and extending the design life of a facility to best meet customer use.
