Neoliberalism’s ecological destruction and injustice is more than a manifestation of an accepted economic system. It is the product of the Western worldview. The best way for schools to participate in curbing its tragic consequences cannot come from critical pedagogy alone or from policies created via a Western lens. Instead, a radically different paradigm is needed that can offer significantly contrasting views for exposing and questioning the kinds of uninvestigated assumptions that support neoliberalism. I give four reasons why the “Indigenous worldview” is the best choice and offer some important guidelines to help non-Indian teachers and students respectfully and authentically borrow from Indigenous Peoples to solve our shared global crises.
