Chapter 14: Epilogue

As researchers focusing on cross-nationally comparative studies of education equity and patterns of social and educational inclusion/exclusion (Mitakidou, Tressou, Swadener, & Grant, 2009), we were pleased for the opportunity to learn from the contributors to this volume. The seventh volume in the book series Research on Education in Africa, the Caribbean, and the Middle East brings together a diverse set of chapters, representing scholarship regarding education policy and practice in 12 nations. As such, the volume presents research in and from these regions that might not otherwise be accessible to a wider international audience—a critical benefit of this book series. Many of the chapters are written by scholars from the focal nation or region, adding authenticity and creating spaces for local voices. In the ongoing spirit of Education for All (www.unesco.org/new/en/education/themes/leading-the-international-agenda/education-for-all/the-efa-movement/), these chapters reflect recent data/research on a range of education policy and practice issues and reflect, in several cases, the borrowing and lending of neoliberal practices and policies in education (Steiner-Khamsi, 2004).
