Often, literacy educators across the country use Writer’s Workshop as a curricular strategy that effectively incorporates each of NCTE’s fundamental elements into writing instruction (Dyson, 2003; Graves, 1983; Ray & Laminack, 2001; Ray & Cleaveland, 2004; Rowe, 1994; Shagoury, 2009). Yet, what this can look like is not widely known in today’s pre-school classrooms. This chapter will provide a glimpse of a multi-year project in which teachers in a federally and state subsidized pre-Kindergarten program and a university instructor explore Writers Workshop in two diverse pre-kindergarten classrooms.
