Chapter 3: Student Understanding of the Concept of Limit in a Technological Environment

Teachers do informal research in their classrooms all the time. We try a new lesson activity, form of evaluation, seating arrangement, grouping of students, or style of teaching. We assess, reflect, modify, and try again as we consider the perceived consequences of the changes we made. Sometimes we share what we learned with colleagues in our school, or perhaps we might present a talk at a professional meeting. I believe that we can strengthen our profession by learning to be more deliberate about the informal research that we conduct within the walls of our individual schools and by being more purposeful about sharing what we have learned. To that end, I share this account of a research project related to the use of technology in calculus that I completed in my high school as part of a graduate class.
