This traditional piece of wisdom may have been first used by those people who started to build the Great Wall of China. However, it applies to curriculum change as well.

This curriculum will mean that you and your student-citizens will think and act differently from some of the routines to which you have become accustomed. We all know that habits are hard to break. However, when the goal is worth it, most human beings change and take that first step if necessary. “To prepare strong citizens for a democracy is a stronger democracy” is indisputably a worthy goal for every social studies educator.
