Gregory L. Samuels is an assistant professor of secondary education at the University of Montevallo and the vice-president of the Social Science Education Consortium. In addition to teaching courses on classroom management, diversity, instructional strategies, African American studies, and social justice, he is a co-principal investigator for a 7-year GEAR UP grant focused on students and educators of Jefferson County Schools in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Samuels’ research interests include teaching and learning for social justice, facilitation of critical pedagogy in the secondary classroom, and inclusive practices of marginalized voices throughout the social studies curriculum. Gregory has authored several peer-reviewed articles and book chapters with the most recent being on the topics of Black Lives Matter, culturally responsive pedagogy, racial literacy, and inequities of rural education.
