Introduction: The Aughts:

Well, this is it; we are nearing the end of our celebration of 50 years of the Saskatchewan Mathematics Teachers’ Society (SMTS). Before introducing the ten articles chosen to represent the aughts (or whichever of the multitude of possible names you have chosen to go with for this decade), I will try, once again, to “set the stage” (if you will) by revisiting some of the major moments in: world and Canadian history, popular culture and mathematics. Lastly, I will provide you with an update on the upcoming book, Selected Writings from the Journal of the Saskatchewan Mathematics Teachers’ Society: Celebrating 50 Years (1961–2011) of vinculum (to be published by Information Age Publishing), and the similar upcoming books celebrating 50 years of the British Columbia Association of Mathematics Teachers and the Mathematics Council of the Alberta Teachers’ Association (also to be published by Information Age Publishing).
