“Like art, learning and teaching have aesthetic elements in the process and product. Since research is a major part of good teaching and learning, theoretical and pedagogical appeal must remain constant. It has been assumed that the truth is in the mind and the heart of the beholder when investigating the ideals of teaching. Aesthetics’ role is not to beautify or exaggerate what works in a given setting; it is, rather, a tool that helps the audience to appreciate and understand the real world of reality in a given context. As such, researchers must rely on eclectic tools for inquiry to reveal and discover. Since many get over engaged with the pitfalls of one’s research design and approach at the expense of their own, it is important to remember that the outcome of research is like the outcome of artwork. We tend to appreciate a piece of art based on its realistic appeal—empirical and otherwise. Similarly, good research is to be judged in terms of its theoretical and pedagogical appeal to its readers. As such, an authentic piece of research is the one that makes us inquire more and take action to improve practice.”
