This chapter reports on how a group of teachers came to understand and apply the concept of a learning trajectory in the context of early rational number reasoning. It identifies transitions in knowledge experienced by participating teachers and changes in their practice that resulted from their understandings. These included increased ability to create models of student thinking, deepening of their own content knowledge, informing their instructional planning and assessment, and promoting more targeted discourse.
