In today’s world, people have become dependent on machines, and thereby energy resources in order to build and operate these machines. Consequently, energy has turned into a most significant factor, not only dominating world politics, but also determining the development of countries. Both in the past and today, there have been numerous wars fought over energy resources. In addition, the independence of countries is now closely related to whether they have the energy resources they require. Countries which can substantially supply their energy requirements through their own resources and pursue sustainable energy policies, are the ones that are economically stronger. Moreover, such countries can dominate world politics through the global energy policies they implement (Özdemir, 2010).
