If the 21st century unfolds as previous centuries have, all we can be sure about is that time will be uniformly distributed, technological and social change will increase exponentially, and almost any attempt at further prediction will under-estimate the amount of change that will occur in the next 90 years. What is most salient to us about the 21st century, in its current nascent state, are the social and personal changes brought about by the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) of digitization, computation, and information transmission via communications networks such as the World Wide Web (WWW).
