First page of Applying Socio-Economic Approach to Management in Lebanon<subtitle>Challenges, Design, and Results</subtitle>

I will be talking about our experience of implementing socio-economic approach to management in Lebanon. It will be the case of three hospitals that belong to the same religious congregation of sisters. The first one is not far away from the capital of Beirut. It’s about 30 minutes driving NE of the capital and has 180 beds. It is considered a mid-size hospital in Lebanon. It has 460 employees, 150 physicians, and a yearly turnover of $21 million. The second hospital is in Beirut, downtown. It has 300 employees and is considered also a mid-sized hospital with 150 beds. It has 150 physicians and its annual turnover is around $10 million. As for the third hospital, it is 20 minutes driving north of Beirut. It is a small size hospital with 66 only beds and its annual turnover is around $9 million. It has 100 physicians and 240 employees. Table 11.1 summarizes the characteristics of the three hospitals:
