This chapter examines the extension of social information processing (SIP) theory to organizational justice. There has been little justice research to date that has investigated the impact of social influences, generally, or SIP, in particular, on organizational justice. The chapter explains the mechanism by which social information affects justice judgments and behaviors. Propositions are developed and a model presented that specifies the particular linkages. The chapter also discusses the implications of SIP as applied to Fairness Theory and Fairness Heuristic Theory and proposes different consequences to the attitudes formed pursuant to each. Further, a research agenda is proposed relating to theoretical, substantive, and methodological issues.
