Wealth management in Switzerland is a gigantic market. The numbers are almost dizzying. Between banks and asset managers, nearly CHF 7,000bn are deposited and administered in the country. This amount corresponds to half of the US GDP or, for local comparison, to more than ten times the Swiss GDP.

Switzerland controls one quarter of the global wealth management market. This leadership role has been maintained, even with the negative impact of the financial crisis. The wealth under management fell by approximately CHF 5,000bn immediately following the financial crisis, but during the past five years has steadily been returning to its record levels of 2007. On the other hand, in the “engine room”, technology has been lagging behind.
