Although authors were asked to focus on music that inspires us as scholars who promote humanity in K-12 schools, Christa wanted to share the first tellings of utilizing music as a means of transforming the way students think about social justice and equity in schools as a praxis for the Leading for Social Justice course at Kent State University. She asked one of the students with whom she worked to co-author this chapter, because Jay collectively composed music as a means of addressing social justice issues facing children who receive special education services. This original work was showcased at a public art gallery in Akron, Ohio, for the 2014 Leading for Social Justice art exhibit, “Be the Voice for Those Who are Unheard,” in which more than 175 people attended the free public one-night event.
