This chapter, through a combination of relevant research literature review, informal and focus group conversations, and a formal study on ethnic self-identification, highlights issues of invisibility, marginalization, and educational experiences of African immigrant students in U.S. schools. The chapter aims to (1) increase the visibility of African immigrant students in U.S. schools; (2) heighten awareness about the unique challenges and educational needs of African immigrant students; (3) highlight effective ways to best serve African immigrant students, and (4) contribute to the dissemination of the discourse on African immigrant students’ educational experiences. The chapter concludes with recommendations for effectively serving African immigrant students.
