First page of Hopes and Expectations

This book contributes to a small body of literature on community schools in a unique way as I provided a description and analysis of Esperanza School. While this revolution in schooling is taking pace globally, current literature has no in-depth case studies of community schools, how they were started, what their mission is and what the involvement of the parents is; this is true for community schools in general, but in particular, Honduras has been ignored in the literature. There is also no literature on the experiences of teachers in these schools, nor is there any literature that looks at the experiences of preservice teachers involved with community schools. Also, examined from a broader perspective, my book contributes to the growing literature that looks at social justice in education internationally (Phillion & He, 2008).
