My dearest Daniela,

This is a letter to you written from my heart. I am writing as I complete the journey of my book project, a journey that has affected me in so many ways, but mostly it has left me with hope and passion—hope that I can work towards improving the education system in Honduras and the passion to act upon my hopes. You are now 10 years old, attending third grade at a bilingual school. Your brothers have the opportunity to attend a bilingual school as well; it is through your parents’ efforts and privileges in life that you, unlike so many children in Honduras, are able to be exposed to a privileged educational system. Right now you might not understand how privileged you are in terms of being offered a quality education system where you do not have to worry whether the teachers will go on strike, if there are enough resources or textbooks for the whole classroom to work on the planned activities, or even if you will be able to find a seat for your daily lessons. Yes, these are just some of the cruel realities many students face in the public educational system.
