Today, Americans debate the value of a liberal education. Can a liberal education help me find a job? Will a liberal education help pay off my college loans? These are some questions that American students raise before deciding what to study in college. Fareed Zakaria’s In Defense of a Liberal Education explores the merits of a liberal education. Zakaria’s book is divided into six well-written chapters. In chapter one Zakaria discusses his own experience in India when deciding where to go to college and what to study in college. As illustrated in the chapter, the author chose Yale University, which encouraged its undergraduate students to take courses in the liberal arts.
