In this chapter we present the “metapedagogy” (MP) method as a conceptual and applied approach with the potential to significantly improve the value of teacher education coursework for preservice teachers (PSTs) as well as the effectiveness of their future teaching. Although this approach is conceptualized and described in detail later in this chapter, its core essence includes turning teacher education coursework into a laboratory of critical investigation and experiential learning. It encourages PSTs to constantly analyze the course content as well as the instructional processes at play. To achieve these ends, teacher educators employing the MP method engage in metapedagogical discussions about their own teaching and facilitate with PSTs a multileveled analysis in regards to both the course content and instructional processes utilized.
