The interdisciplinary body of knowledge on human development entertains theories and research about the physiological, cognitive, and socio-emotional maturation and growth of human beings from conception to death. Currently, it can be divided into three domains: (1) physiological development, which focuses on the growth and aging of the body, the functioning of its physiological systems, mobility, reproduction and sensory perception; (2) cognitive development, which focuses on the maturation and decline of mental processes and outcomes involving perception, memory and problem-solving, with close ties to learning and language acquisition; and (3) socio-emotional development, which focuses on continuities and changes in intrapersonal aspects like emotions, motivation, and personality traits, as well as interpersonal aspects, such as different role understandings, gender
