This research brings attention to the contribution of digital platforms for business innovation in Houston’s Healthcare Industry with special reference to ecosystem development. Over 20,000 healthcare establishments in Houston make it possible to understand more about the interplay of platforms and ecosystems for innovation. The research question fills the literature gap with the aim of understanding how ecosystem development contributes to innovativeness arising from the use of digital platforms. A cross-sectional quantitative survey was conducted, and data were gathered from 300 IT managers and innovation officers from the hospitals, ambulatory services and social assistance organisations. A quantitative survey assessed the connectivity, accessibility, and scalability of digital platforms as well as ecosystem development encompassing stakeholder collaboration, asset sharing, innovation networks, and business performance in terms of product, process, and market innovation. The cross-sectional and mediated effects hypotheses were assessed using exploratory Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). Study findings prove that digital platforms enhance innovation greatly, and ecosystem development further intensifies innovation by encouraging synergistic relationships among participants.
