Collaborative professional development (PD) aims to enhance the quality of literacy instruction and learning through a lens of empowering educators in their local setting via culturally sustaining pedagogy (CSP). Over several decades and multiple countries, a cascade of collaboration was gifted to the two authors, both teacher educators with extensive K‑12 experiences. These encounters generated five principles of PD to empower educators across continents, countries, and locales to improve literacy instruction for all students:
