In recent years, the agricultural zone used for olive cultivation and extra virgin olive oil consumption has increased significantly. However, changing farming practices presents novel challenges to ensuring economic and environmental sustainability. Precision agriculture has emerged as an area of growing scientific interest and importance in addressing these challenges. The effective application of precision agriculture depends on various technological developments, including the use of sensors for local and remote monitoring of crops, the integration of worldwide navigation satellite structures, the development of devices and machines for site‑specific management by applying variable quantities, the introduction of geographical information systems and the Implementation of arrangements for analysis, explanation and decision support. This report offers a comprehensive overview of the current status of these technologies and their potential applications in olive cultivation, as well as the challenges that exist. In addition, the possibilities of future technologies for instance the Internet of Things, unmanned ground vehicles, and machine learning will be explored and their possible solutions and implementations in the olive growing sector will be discussed.
