Abstract
Tourism has increasingly become bound by a sense of responsibility to be more considerate of the environment by reducing carbon footprint levels. Artificial Intelligence can provide a promising avenue for realizing such sustainability goals by optimizing several facets of tourism operations. This chapter, therefore, talks about the current AI applications that are aimed at mitigating carbon footprints in the tourism industry and are focused on three key areas: transportation, accommodation, and tourist studies. AI-powered responses, along with predictive analytics to optimize journey routes, smart energy management in lodges, and personalized eco-friendly travel recommendations are discussed. By embedding AI technologies, stakeholders in the tourism sector can make informed decisions that sell environmental conservation while enhancing the overall tourist experience. The present study will focus on how AI is positioned to drive sustainable tourism initiatives while showing guidelines from destination studies to further enhance these efforts.
