The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted traditional educational environments globally at the beginning of 2020, prompting institutions of higher education to rapidly adapt by shifting to online teaching (Martirosyan et al., 2022). This transition highlighted the importance of online learning. It played a crucial role in maintaining the continuity of education during global crises. This chapter presents a comprehensive qualitative content analysis of recent research conducted between mid-2020 and the end of 2023. It examines how online learning has evolved in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, it illustrates the various factors that have influenced the effectiveness of online learning in higher education institutions worldwide. The findings emphasize both the positive and negative impacts of this shift, emphasizing the potential of online learning to foster inclusiveness and support diverse student populations while acknowledging the challenges of technology access and engagement. The chapter aims to provide insights into the various challenges, adaptations, innovations, and prospective paths that have redefined international higher education and promote educational equity.
