Higher education leaders have developed and refined policies on research integrity and security within their respective countries. However, organizational commitments and responsibilities at the institutional level have become more intricate due to the advancements in technology and digital communication platforms. This chapter outlines the fundamental concepts of research integrity and research security, examining emerging challenges and analyzing ongoing policy updates from the perspectives of research infrastructure, research operation and management, research policies, stakeholders, as well as the influence of digital platforms across national research ecosystems. Consequently, individual researchers encounter difficulties in comprehending the guidelines, rules, and regulations that they should follow when institutional or international requirements conflict. To address these challenges effectively, higher education leaders should engage with key stakeholders across national boundaries. the author outlines and discusses eight key subjects, namely, appropriate use and reporting of public research grants and funds, cultural matters, cybersecurity, data matters, export and import controls, intellectual property, legal and regulatory systems, and research misconduct as the emerging challenges in higher education in a digital age.
