Exploring the scope and use of self-study as a methodology provides intimate scholars a defined space to research their practice. The self-study method has continued to gain recognition and favor as researchers clarify its boundaries, use of rigor, and usefulness in transforming teaching as a profession. This chapter outlines the history of self-study, and focuses on two of its most prominent proponents: Bob Bullough and Stefinee Pinnegar. Through a review of their self-study research and its links to the call to teach, new possibilities for researchers to engage in self-study emerge.
