Abstract
In this chapter, we describe the Math for Early Learners Academy (MELA), a 4-week-long summer mathematics outreach activity that supports Pre‑Kindergarten and Kindergarten students in developing early number sense. This outreach activity, hosted at a museum on a university campus, brings together mathematics teacher educators, elementary teachers, preservice teachers, and museum professionals to support early learners identified as struggling with mathematics. Activities support students in early number sense areas such as magnitude comparison, number identification, number sequencing, and quantity recognition.
