Immersion, characterised by a deep state of focus and engagement, has become a cornerstone in mental health interventions and stress management strategies. Rooted in psychological concepts like flow and mindfulness, immersion spans various domains, including virtual reality (VR) therapy, interactive gaming, mindfulness practices, and natural environments. This chapter examines the mechanisms by which immersive experiences promote mental health, such as fostering present-moment awareness, providing a psychological escape, and enhancing emotional regulation. Drawing on empirical studies, it provides evidence of stress reduction, improved mood, and enhanced cognitive functioning through immersive methods. It also discusses practical applications and the future potential of immersion in therapeutic settings, education, and daily life.
