Reading has always been an intimate and intuitive experience for me. Just like some books leave an impression on you after finishing them, certain books find me when I need them. They provide context and insight, helping me articulate my feelings and make sense of the personal experiences they coincide with. In this way, reading has introduced me to different parts of myself: furthering my understanding of certain interests and beliefs, finding my voice as a writer, and how empathy enables me to relate to and connect with other people. This chapter will serve as a reading biography, examining five books that found me at the right time, what I took away from my initial reading, and how they have shaped my perspective as a reader, writer, and library and information science (LIS) professional.
