Human–animal teaming (HanT) has long exemplified successful interspecies collaboration built on trust, communication, and mutual adaptation. As artificial intelligence (AI) systems become increasingly integrated into human teams, examining the dynamics of human–animal partnerships offers valuable insights into trust calibration, role negotiation, situational awareness, and ethical responsibility. This chapter explores how principles from human–animal collaboration can inform the design and deployment of human–agent teams, addressing challenges of transparency, autonomy, and human-centered interaction.
