Abstract
E-marketplaces for agricultural goods are transforming the agricultural sector by enhancing productivity, market efficiency and transparency in the global supply chain. This study explores the influence of digital platforms on agricultural practices, focusing on real-time information access, market trend updates and transaction cost reduction. By minimising intermediaries and enabling direct farmer-to-buyer connections, e-marketplaces reduce overheads related to transportation, labour and time. This digital shift not only improves economic returns for small farmers but also strengthens traceability and fosters sustainable practices. The expansion of agricultural markets through digital supply chains modernises the sector and brings far-reaching improvements. Farmers benefit from better price discovery and increased market access, helping to address long-standing issues such as information asymmetry and high transaction costs. The digitalisation of agricultural transactions enables more efficient, productive and fair operations across the value chain. Furthermore, this technological integration contributes to the economic growth and development of rural areas by empowering farmers and reducing dependency on middlemen. This study underscores the crucial role of e-marketplaces in the transformation and upliftment of the agricultural sector. It offers insights into leveraging digital platforms to address marketing challenges and enhance the overall efficiency of agricultural systems. Through this, the study highlights how technological innovations can lead to a more inclusive and sustainable future for agriculture.
